| The Group's principal activity is to provide natural gas and electric service and promoting economic development. The Group operates in five segments: Electric Utility Operations, Gas Utility Operations, Non-regulated Energy Operations, Transmission Investments, and Other. The electric business generates and distributes electricity and contracts for transmission service. The gas business purchases and distributes natural gas and contracts for the transportation of natural gas. The Nonregulated energy business constructs and owns new electric generating capacity. At 31-Dec-2008, the Group supplied electric service to nearly 136,000 customers in Dane Country. On 31-Dec-2008, it supplied natural gas service to 141,000 customers in the cities of Elroy, Fitchburg, Lodi, Madison, Middleton, Monona, Prairie du Chien, Verona and Viroqua; 24 villages and all or parts of 45 townships. |
