The Group's principal activity is providing a range of banking and financial services through branches and offices in the United Kingdom and overseas. It is organized into three divisions. United Kingdom Retail Banking provides banking, financial services, mortgages and private banking to personal customers. Wholesale and International Banking provides banking and related services for major United Kingdom and multinational corporate and financial institutions, as well as small and medium-sized United Kingdom businesses. It also provides asset finance and share registration services to personal and corporate customers, manages the Group's activities in financial markets through its treasury function, and provides banking and financial services overseas. Insurance and Investments offers life assurance, pensions and investment products, general insurance and fund management services. On 16-Jan-2009, the Group acquired HBOS plc.
