The Group's principal activity is to provide carbon compounds and commercial wood treatment products. These products are used in a variety of markets including the railroad, aluminium, chemical, utility and steel industries. It has two segments: Carbon Materials and Chemicals and Railroad and Utility Products. The Carbon Materials and Chemicals segment manufactures carbon pitch, phthalic anhydride, creosote, carbon black and furnace coke. These products are critical intermediate materials in production of aluminium, the pressure treatment of wood and production of plasticizers and specialty chemicals. The Railroad and Utility products segment provides products and services to railroads and public utility markets, that include crossties, track and switch pre-assemblies and disposal services and supplies treated wood poles to electric and telephone utilities. It operates in North America, Europe, Australia and China.
