The Group's principal activity is that of a self-administered real estate investment trust. It owns and operates neighborhood and community shopping centers like discount department stores, supermarkets and drugstores. The Group also provides property management services for shopping centers owned by affiliated entities and unaffiliated third parties. As of 31-Dec-2008, the Group portfolio was comprised of interests in approximately 160.8 million square feet of GLA in 1,407 operating properties primarily consisting of neighborhood and community shopping centers, and 16 retail store leases located in 45 states, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Chile.
