The Group's principal activity is to produce copper and other metals as by-products, including zinc, silver and gold and power generation. It has 20 mines and 10 concentrators spread across four regional units: Zhezkazgan, Balkhash, Karaganda and the East Region. The Group's Gold is a separate division, consisting of two gold mines in eastern Kazakhstan and three gold/silver development projects in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries. Its MKM segment which purchases copper from independent traders and produces and sells a variety of semi-finished copper and copper alloy products. The Group's Power segment, representing the Ekibastuz and Maikuben West businesses, to sell electricity to external customers. On 29-May-2008, the Group acquires Ekibastuz GRES-1 coal-fired power plant.
