| The Group's principal activities are providing grocery and related retailing and financial services. The Group's supermarket operations has a range of own brand products such as fresh produce, food and grocery products. In addition many stores provides delicatessen, meat and fish counters, pharmacies, coffee shops, restaurants and petrol stations. The Group serves over 14 million customers a week in 769 stores throughout the United Kingdom. The stores are set-up in centre or edge-of-centre locations, many of these built on previously redundant sites. The Group also provides internet-based home delivery service to its local market. Customers place orders online and choose when to have their shopping delivered. It also has financial related operations offering such services as savings and loan products, credit cards and a number of insurance products. During 2006, the Group acquired the entire share capital of Culcheth Provision Stores Ltd. |
