| The Groups' principal activity is to discover, develop and market therapeutics to treat patients suffering from life-threatening diseases. It focuses its research and clinical programs on anti-infectives, antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial products. The Group markets Viread, Emtriva and Truvada for the treatment of HIV infection; AmBisome, an antifungal agent; Hepsera, for the treatment chronic hepatitis B; Vistide, for the treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis; DaunoXome, a drug approved for the treatment of Kaposi's Sarcoma; Tamiflu, for the treatment and prevention of influenza A and B. It has developed liposomal drug delivery technology used to develop drugs, which are safer, easier for patients to tolerate and effective. The Group markets its products in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, France,Turkey, Portugal, Greece, the Netherlands and Australia. During September 2007, the Group acquired Nycomed Limited. |
