Genesee & Wyoming Inc. owns and operates short line and regional freight railroads and provides railcar switching services in the United States, Australia, Canada, Belgium and the Netherlands. In addition, the Company operates a railroad that runs approximately 1,400 miles northsouth between Tarcoola in South Australia and Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. It operates in 30 states in the United States, four Australian states, one Australian territory and three Canadian provinces and provides rail service at 17 ports in North America and Europe. As of December 31, 2011, it operated over approximately 7,600 miles of owned, jointly owned and leased track and approximately 1,405 additional miles under track access arrangements. On September 1, 2011, the Company acquired Arizona Eastern Railway.
