| The Group's principal activities are leasing, managing, operating and investing in long-lived assets used in rail, marine and industrial equipment markets. The Group operates in three segments: Rail, Specialty and American Steamship Company. The Rail segment is engaged in leasing tank and freight railcars and locomotives. The Specialty segment consists of a portfolio of leases, affiliate investments, loans and interests in residual values consisting of marine vessels, aircraft, rail and other equipments. The American Steamship Company segment provides a fleet of self-unloading marine vessels and is engaged in the waterborne transportation of dry bulk commodities. The Group consummated the merger of its wholly-owned operating subsidiary , GATX Financial Corporation on May 11, 2007. |
