| The Group's principal activity is to provide investment advisory and brokerage services to mutual fund, institutional and high net worth investors, primarily in the United States. The Group manages assets on a discretionary basis and invests in a variety of U.S. and international securities through various investment styles. The Group conducts business through three subsidiaries: GAMCO Asset Management Inc, Gabelli Funds LLC and Gabelli Securities Inc. It acts as an underwriter and distributor of open-end mutual funds and provides institutional research through Gabelli and Company Inc, the broker-dealer subsidiary. |
