The Groups' principal activity is copper and gold mining. It operates through five segments: North America copper mines, South America copper mines, Indonesia mining, Africa mining and Molybdenum operations. The Mining and exploration operations are located in the highlands of the Sudirman Mountain Range in the province of Papua (formerly Irian Jaya), Indonesia. The Smelting and refining includes Atlantic Copper's operations in Spain and PT Freeport Indonesia's equity investment in PT Smelting in Gresik, Indonesia. The Group smelts and refines copper concentrates in Spain and markets the refined copper products, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Atlantic Copper SA. It operates in United States, Japan, Spain, Indonesia, Chile, United Kingdom and others.
