The Company's principal activity is to provide funds to mortgage lenders through purchases of mortgage assets, and issuing and guaranteeing mortgage-related securities that facilitate the flow of additional funds into the mortgage market. The Company also makes other investments that increase the supply of affordable housing. The Company operates in three segments. Single-Family segment generates revenue from guaranty fees from mortgage loans underlying guaranteed single-family Fannie Mae mortgage-backed securities. Housing and Community Development segment generates revenues from guaranty fees from mortgage loans underlying multifamily Fannie Mae MBS, transaction fees associated with the multifamily business and bond credit enhancement fees. Our Capital Markets segment invests in mortgage loans, mortgage-related securities and liquid investments. It operates in United States.
