The Group's principal activities are to manufacture, market and distribute industrial batteries and related products. The related products include chargers, power equipment and battery accessories. It operates through two segments: The Reserve Power and The Motive Power. The Reserve Power batteries are used to provide backup power for the continuous operation of critical telecommunications and uninterruptible power systems during power disruptions. It is marketed and sold principally under the PowerSafe, DataSafe and Genesis brands. The Motive Power batteries are used to power mobile manufacturing, warehousing and other ground handling equipment. It is marketed and sold principally under the Hawker, Exide and General brands. The Group's manufacturing facilities are located in the Americas, Europe and Asia. During 2008, the Group, acquired 97% interest in Energia AD.
