| The Group's principal activity is producing and marketing iron ore pellets. The Group operates through three segments. The North American Iron Ore segment is comprised of our six iron ore mining operations in Michigan, Minnesota and Eastern Canada. The North American Coal segment supplied metallurgical coal in North America. The Asia-Pacific Iron Ore segment is comprised of Portman, an Australian iron ore mining company and it includes Koolyanobbing mine and Cockatoo Island. Portman serves the Asian iron ore markets with direct-shipping fines and lump ore. The Group customers include ArcelorMittal USA, Algoma, Severstal, U.S. Steel Canada. On March 2007, it acquired 30 percent interest in MMX Amapa Mineracao Ltda. It also acquired 45 percent economic interest in Sonoma in Queensland, Australia and PinnOak, a privately owned U.S. mining company on April 2007 and July 2007 respectively. The group operates in United States, China, Canada, Japan and other countries. |
