The Group's principal activity is to invest in Syncrude Joint Venture. The Group is an open-ended investment trust that generates income from its 36.74 per cent working interest in the Syncrude Joint Venture in 31-Dec 2008. Located near Fort McMurray, Alberta, Syncrude operates large oil sands mines, a utilities plant, bitumen extraction plants and an upgrading complex that processes bitumen into a light sweet crude oil. Syncrude is the world's largest producer of crude oil from oil sands and the largest single source producer in Canada.
