| The Group's principal activity is that of a real estate investment trust. The Group qualifies as a real estate investment trust under sections 856-860 of the Internal Revenue Code, as amended. The Group owns, acquires, develops and manages multifamily apartment communities in six metropolitan markets of the western United States. As on 31-Dec-2007, the Group had 77 wholly or majority-owned apartment communities totaling 21,808 units, thirteen multifamily communities owned in joint ventures, comprised of 4,080 apartment units; and ten apartment communities in various stages of construction and development, totaling 3,125 units. |
