BLS AG is a Switzerland-based company engaged in the rail-based transportation services. Its main activities are the provision of passenger transportation services in the Bernese metropolitan area, as well as freight traffic through the Alps. BLS AG is also engaged in the provision of car transportation services in the Loetschberg region, and the provision of motorboat services on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. In addition, BLS AG operates maintenance workshops for its own rolling stock, as well as the provision of engineering and other services. As of December 31, 2010, the Company’s investment portfolio included three wholly owned subsidiaries, Emmental Tours AG, BLS Cargo Italia Srl and BLS Cargo Deutschland GmbH; two majority-owned companies, BLS Cargo AG and Busland AG; and minor stakes in BLS Netz AG.
