It focuses on research and development of anti-infectives. Its lead program is apricitabine (ATC), which is in phase III trials. Apricitabine is nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI) for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The phase III study is conducted in 130 specialist HIV centers in 15 countries. The Company’s integrase program focuses to identify compounds, which inhibit HIV integrase, the enzyme for inserting the viral genome into the host cell deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Its antibacterial program is focused on identifying compounds with antibacterial activity against antibiotic-resistant micro-organisms. A lead molecule, AVX13616, is selected for pre-clinical testing.
