The Group's principal activities are manufacturing and marketing fuel-grade ethanol. It owns and operates two ethanol plants in Nebraska and Illinois for the distillation and production of fuel-grade ethanol. Ethanol is marketed across the United States as an oxygenate to reduce vehicle emissions as part of federal and state clean fuel programs which require the use of oxygenated gasoline in areas with certain levels of air pollution. The other coproducts of the Group are corn gluten feed, corn germ, brewers yeast and nutritional animal feed ingredients which are marketed directly to livestock farms or feed and food-processing companies in the United States and the European Union. In addition to production of ethanol, it also purchases ethanol from unaffiliated producers and marketers.
