| The Group's principal activity is mining, extracting and producing gold minerals. The Group produces 5.6 million ounces of gold of which 2.6 million ounces came from deep-level hard rock operations in South Africa and the balance of 2.5 million ounces from shallow and surface operations, and 0.5 million ounces from underground operations around the world.
