The Group's principal activities are carried out through four business segments: Merchant Gases, Tonnage Gases, Electronics and Performance Materials and Equipment and Energy. Merchant Gases sells industrial gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and argon. Tonnage Gases Segment distributes hydrogen, carbon monoxide, nitrogen and oxygen to the petroleum refining and metallurgical industries. Electronics and Performance Materials Segment provides material solutions through chemical synthesis, analytical technology, process engineering and surface science. Equipment and Energy Segment designs and manufactures cryogenic and gas processing equipment for air separation (utilizing membrane technology and adsorption technology), hydrocarbon recovery and purification, natural gas liquefaction (known as LNG) helium distribution and serves energy market in a variety of ways. In September 2008, the Group sold its healthcare business.
