| The Group's principal activity is providing bus and train services. It runs various modes of transport, including buses, trains, coaches and waterbuses. Its also has a bus and coach distribution business, a sightseeing tour bus business and an airport-related transport services business. It has bus and rail operations in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. As on 31-Dec-2008, the Group had has operations across 12 European countries with 15,000 buses and 570 train sets, providing transport for one billion plus passenger journeys a year. It has four segments: United Kingdom Bus, Mainland Europe, United Kingdom Trains and Central. In the United Kingdom, the Company runs around 4,500 buses. It operates two United Kingdom rail franchises, CrossCountry and Arriva Trains Wales.At CrossCountry, it operates under contract to the UK Governments department for transport. |
